Airbnb's Hiring a PR Specialist

The Communications team is responsible for telling the Airbnb story around the world. Whether it's speaking to journalists and bloggers, hosts and guests, industry commentators, thought leaders or the wider community, the Communications team is the voice of Airbnb.

This position will be based in Sydney, reporting to our Head of Communications, Australia & New Zealand, and will require occasional domestic and international travel. As a member of the Communications team, you will work closely with our Trust and Safety, Marketing, Customer Experience and Public Policy teams to help advance the company's position in this exciting region. You’ll be at the front line, telling our story to a wide range of journalists and community leaders.

You’ve got to be comfortable and confident in working directly with journalists; managing media enquiries on deadline; helping design and deliver communications plans; and supporting the production of events. We’re looking for an effective and creative communicator who has the ability to explain complex ideas in simple ways.


  • Supporting the communications activities and strategies for Airbnb in Australia & New Zealand.
  • Contribute and collaborate with the global communications team.
  • Work well with various stakeholders across the business including marketing, social media, community teams etc
  • Develop strategies that are relevant to the local market and capture the attention of local audiences
  • Handle day-to-day media requests and briefings across Australia & New Zealand
  • Develop written materials, story pitches, messaging guidelines, press releases, Q&As, presentations and speeches.
  • Work with company spokespeople to prepare them for public speaking engagements, media interviews, and company meetings


  • 3-5 years experience in Public Relations
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience in running Public Relations campaigns in this region
  • Consumer/lifestyle/travel media contacts
  • Experience in managing projects in a fast paced environment
  • Excellent writing skills, with samples to share
  • Unwavering verbal communications skills in any situation
  • Maintaining enthusiasm and calm demeanour in even the most stressful situations
  • Ability to work with international teams and quickly develop an understanding for the cultural differences
  • Passion for Airbnb and the mission of the company
  • Experience in working with agency partners
  • Ability to travel at short notice within Australia, New Zealand and overseas
